Protecting Your Pet
Years ago, my friend’s beloved Beagle died unexpectedly from eagerly eating some chocolate. Since then, I’ve become more and more aware of the toxicity of common household products. I’ve even heard that onions aren’t so great for dogs! The ASPCA has this handy list:

They also have a phone number you can call if you learn of an animal that appears to have been poisoned.
Lost Pets
A calico cat named Willow, who disappeared from a home near the Rocky Mountains five years ago…was found in Manhattan… http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/15/nyregion/willow-lost-cat-from-colorado-resurfaces-in-manhattan.html?_r=4&partner=rss&emc=rss
I was reminded by this article of when I was 9-years old and found a wonderful, fuzzy and kind-hearted Husky wandering our neighborhood. (Not Manhattan, though we lived on Long Island at the time.) My family welcomed him into our home, and fed and watered him. And we loved him. He was great. Though he lacked dog tags, we searched for his owners in the Lost and Found ads; we never found any. I named him Chewbacca because he made a woe-full howling sound occasionally. During the day he would sleep, but around 5pm he would come alive with pep, obviously programmed by his previous life where his owners probably kept a routine of a good 9 to 5 work schedule.
One day, my babysitter visited. She lived the next town over, five miles away (again, no Colorado to Manhattan story here), and she looked at Chewbacca and spoke to my worst fear. “I think I know who this dog belongs to.” Sure enough, her neighbor, had posted “Lost Dog” signs in her neighborhood. We called the number, and the owners showed up later. In those 2 weeks we had him, I had never seen “Chewbacca” run as fast as that day he saw his owners showed up for him.

Autumn Vacations
With the approach of Labor Day and the beginning of school days, it may seem like summer has ended. Technically there are a few more days remaining! Woo hoo! There is still time to head to the cabin for the weekend or have a quick get-away for some R&R. Regardless of where you find yourself–in the thick of a routine or still dreaming of taking that 4-day weekend, Comfy Cat Care remains ready to care for your favorite creatures. Perhaps you have a personal day that you want to use to visit that Best Friend in the Twin Cities. Or you promised the kids they’d get to see their Grandma in Minot. Give Comfy Cat Care a call, and you’ll be sure your pets are given loads of TLC while you are away.
Purrrs and Ruffs
I’ve heard the murmuring…”What about us?” Cats of the Fargo-Moorhead area are wondering why their photos aren’t being included on this blog. As Axl Rose would say, “All you need is just a little patience!” More photos are coming, and pets of all purrs and barks will be happy with the results!
I Think I Like Listening to *Others* Songify Cats
I promise I will never sing for any customers; that’s a money-back guarantee! The following, however, is as close as I will come to appreciating the more musically-adventurous. Enjoy, meow.
Friends of Comfy Cat Care
As I get to understand “blogging” better, I want to say the most about Comfy Cat Care with the least amount of words. Afterall, CCC is founded on the idea of saving owners time and energy. Well, since a picture is worth a thousand words, I thought I would include a couple–provide a furry face or two to Comfy Cat Care. (Note: In these photos, the cats were shy, so you will only see canine companions.)
How did your dog survive Independence Day?
Independence Day is a great day for our nation, not so much for even the most patriotic and courageous dog! PETA.org recently posted an interesting article about ways to calm your puppy during the most explosive night of the year. One of the more intriguing suggestions was to avoid over-comforting your dog; rather than producing a calm dog, too much reassurance “It’s going to be okay; REALLY, you’re okay” (in baby talk) (some of you know what I mean) can actually make him or her feel like their feelings of fear are valid! And pounds and shelters see a great increase in runaway canines after a storm or a night of loud fireworks.
The chance of losing your canine companion is only one side of the story; I’ve actually FOUND dogs during storms and firework displays. They just showed up at my door seeking refuge after running scared from their own homes. Okay, so this only happened twice, but thanks to the dogs’ ID tags, the pups were quickly returned to their owners.
So how did you and your canine companion survive Independence Day? Any tips to share with the world?
